The Hunger Games  by Suzanne Collins

When you watch a reality show on TV, you know the players are safe and even though there will be one winner, everyone else will be alive. In the Hunger Games this isn't true. A boy and a girl contestant are chosen from each community. The games are broadcast on television and the watchers vote for their favorites. The contestants need to fight to survive. Winning means food for their families and themselves. Danger lurks everywhere and people will get hurt, even die. Would you like to play?

The Earth, My Butt and Other Big Round Things  by Carolyn Mackler

Imagine eating a Twinkie while sitting in the bathroom stall – sounds gross, right? Not for Virginia Shreeves, to her it was the only place she fit in. Virginia is a bit on the chubby side, not at all what her workaholic parents had in mind for her. She used to be able to hang with her brother, Byron, but he went off to college. She holds her brother on a pedestal and wants to strive to be more like him. Virginia even tried to take him a batch of rice crispy treats when she visited him at his dorm. If only he would have welcomed her instead of shoeing her away that day. Maybe he wouldn’t have gotten into the mess he’s in. If you want to find out what it is, you need to read The Earth, My Butt and Other Big Round Things by Carolyn Mackler.

Breaking Dawn by Stephenie Meyer

As a Twilight Saga devotee I found the final installment lacking. Breaking Dawn does not satisfy. The ending was incredibly anti-climatic. I am sad to see the story end this way...  (To see the complete review, including major spoilers, click here.)
